What is the carding process?
Carding is an inter-fibre process made using appropriate gaskets on a series of drums and rotating cylinders that transform wool flocks into a fibre web and then into the carded sliver. Main carding objectives are: • Open/undo the wool flocks of entangled and agglomerated fibres by progressive phases until obtaining a web of separate individual fibres partially initiated to a condition of fibre parallelization; • Remove vegetal or mineral impurities not removed by scouring; • Package and collect outgoing sliver into special containers (cans) for subsequent working phases. Carding yield ranges from 90 to 95%, depending on wool type.
