What is the Canadian Light Source?
The Canadian Light Source, Canada’s national synchrotron facility, is the largest scientific project undertaken in Canada in at least 30 years. Located at the University of Saskatchewan, the CLS will be a strong research and development facility that promotes multi-disciplinary research and networking in pure and applied sciences. Owned by the University of Saskatchewan, the CLS begins operations in 2004. Currently there are no synchrotrons in Canada. Canadian scientists must travel to synchrotrons in Europe, Japan and the U.S. to do their research. Quick and convenient access to a Canadian synchrotron will provide key advantages to research and technology in Alberta.
