WHAT IS THE CAB?
Local CABs are mandated by the national AIDS Clinical Trials Group to ensure community involvement in each AIDS Clinical Trials Unit (ACTU) in order to advance HIV/AIDS research. The CAB for UTMBs ACTU was formed in 1992, the same year the ACTU opened its doors in Galveston. It represents a diverse group of individuals committed to serving the needs of people living with HIV/AIDS on Galveston Island, the Mainland and surrounding areas. CAB membership is open to persons living with HIV/AIDS or affected by HIV/AIDS, including family, friends and caregivers, community-based service providers, ministers and representatives of underserved communities. Persons who are currently enrolled in a clinical trial or have participated in the past are especially encouraged to join the CAB. Click here for a history of CABs.
