A14: Penalties for possession, use, or trafficking in illegal drugs in Bulgaria are severe, and convicted offenders can expect long jail sentences and heavy fines. In March 2004 Bulgarian parliament approved legislation that would make possession of a single dose of marijuana punishable by a prison sentence of three to fifteen years.
