What is the brand name for medication for hypothyroidism? Don want generic?
It’s a matter of dosage adjustment. Changing to a brand name like Synthroid is as likely to be a step backwards as it is a step forwards. If you’ve only been on thyroid replacement for a couple of months, it’s perfectly normal not to have found your ideal dose yet. The norm is to start with a small dose and adjust upwards slowly and carefully. Using levothyroxine, one normally starts in an adult with 25 micrograms per day, and on average winds up with a dose of about one microgram for every pound of your body’s weight. As you can see, going up 25 micrograms at a time takes a while, but it also avoids overshooting, which is worse than underdosing.
