For small residential boilers few problems occur. If the refractory gets wet and cracks repairs or replacement is required. However, older boilers, those 20 years or older, have asbestos mixed in with the brick and can be all asbestos. DO NOT tamper with this material use only certified abatement personnel. Castable ceramic cement must be used for proper repairs. This cement requires 24 hours of air curing then slowly bring the boiler up to temperature. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS.
