What is the Board of Educations plan if the referendum doesnt pass?
If the April 26 referendum doesnt pass, there are a couple of obvious options. Regroup and try another referendum in coming months Postpone another referendum and add an estimated 87 more portable classrooms to school grounds, watch as land and construction prices continue to escalate, and make do the best we can. Maintenance challenges loom large in Beaufort County for we have not kept pace with needed repairs. From experience we know that families dont stop moving to the Lowcountry even though 30 mobile classrooms are parked behind a school. While other school districts in the state and nation help their students succeed by teaching them how to access a world of information through technology, our students wont have that same advantages. This referendum will ensure our students are prepared for the 21st century with technology and our investment in school buildings is protected.
