What is the Birmingham Schools Litter Charter?

0

The Schools Litter Charter is a symbol of recognition for schools that have made a commitment to looking after their school and the local environment through education and environmental initiatives. Schools can enter our Poster Competition for a chance to win fantastic prizes including a visit by the Eco Girl Theatrical Show to their school. How is a school awarded the Litter Charter? All Birmingham schools can be considered for the Litter Charter and there are five requirements: • There must be an educational programme in school to promote environmental awareness and deal with the issue of littering and the effect it has on the environment • The school grounds must be litter free and facilities must be available around the school for pupils to dispose of their litter • Approaches to the school must be litter free • Evidence of a recycling scheme at the school for materials such as paper, glass and cans • Evidence that litter pick activities are carried out by pupils around the school
