What is the biggest gliding animal?
The flying lemur is also known as the colugo. It is not a lemur and it does not fly. Rather, it is more closely related to bats and it glides between trees. Its gliding membrane, known as patagium, extends from its neck to the tips of the fingers and toes and the end of the tail. To glide, the animal stretches out its limbs so that the membrane forms a taut gliding platform. The longest glide on record is 136 m between two trees.
