What is the biggest city in England without a cathedral?
Like some other answerers here, I thought a city had to have a cathedral to be called a city. In fact, I thought that was the very definition of a city – a town with a cathedral. However, there were a few news snippets a few years back when the powers that be were talking of creating another city. I seem to remember Sunderland was touted as a possibility. I don’t know if anything became of the plans to create another city, or if they did, whether Sunderland ‘won’. But it’s be interesting to find out whether, if it did become a city, an existing church was renamed as a cathedral.
