What is the biggest challenge facing health care today? Any thoughts on how it could be addressed?
The health care industry is plagued with many problems. My biggest fear is that our country is not nurturing to students interested in medicine. There are so many obstacles: financial, social, and others. Our government needs to recognize that we need more primary care physicians to care for our growing population. Instead of making it harder to defer loans when we cannot afford to pay them back during residency, the government should concentrate on ways to make it easier to make it through college, medical school, and residency. With many people facing one quarter of a million dollars in debt after medical school, primary care becomes not just unattractive, but maybe even impossible. What’s the craziest thing a patient have ever told you or asked you? How did you handle it? I spent a month in a family doc’s office during my first year of medical school. One of his well known patients came in, and the doctor told me to go see her. Prior to this patient, I had not been seeing patients b
