What is the biggest advantage of LED HDTVs?
LED sets are really about obtaining deep, rich, black levels in dark scenes, and improving picture contrast and shadow detail. Plasmas have done a pretty good job of this, while LCDs have not. With the new LED technology, LCDs can now produce black levels that equal and at times surpass that of plasmas. It’s still not perfect. LED sets cannot control the light of individual pixels as plasmas do. They can only do this with clusters of pixels. This creates light leakage where the part of picture should be completely dark. LED sets are very energy-efficient. They cut down the power an LCD would use by 40 per cent. And they produce a brighter image.
