What is the best way to work lower abs and obliques?
If you can find a pilates class, that would be a great place to start. If you want to get started right away, doing abdominal crunches is a great place to start. Lie on the floor, knees bent so that you resemble an upside down table top, keeping sure that your knees are over your hip bones- this engages your whole core. Lift and lower your shoulder blades off the floor taking care to keep space between your chin and chest. Your hands can gently support your head. Do not pull your head as this can hurt your neck. You can even do these slow where you raise and lower for 2 counts. Obliques: Start in a sitting position with your legs in a criss-cross applesauce fashion. If you rotate your torso and keep your hips still, you will be working your obliques. To intensify, you can take your legs out in front of you with the knees bent still keeping the hips still, and twist the torso again. To further intensify, you can also take the feet off the floor, balancing on your sitz bones- but be sure
The best way is to be sure to skip all the silly ab roller machines that they sell on TV. They are all gimmicks designed to part you from your hard earned money. Nothing beats doing crunches, when done with proper technique. I don’t say this lighty. Generally, you need to have someone show you the correct method so that you makimize those muscles by isolating them when doing the exercise. So speed and adding weight is possible as fitness improves. You may also do them on an incline to increase resistance. I hope this helps.
