Look at your plumbing underneath your sink. If plastic you shouldn’t need tools. Get a bucket or pot that will fit beneath the plumbing directly under the drain, where you see the U shaped pipe unsrew it. If water is sitting in the pipe below the U shaped pipe your clog could be in your basement. Most times the U shape pipe is where th clog is. If your plumbing is metal you will need a pipe wrench to take the U shaped pipe apart.
