What is the best way to support my child with his/her reading development?

The most important thing for you to do at home is to make reading an important part of the day. Read the books sent home every day. Even if the children can not “read” on their own- set aside a reading time each day for them to look through books, creating a story from the pictures they see. As they learn more and more words, they can start to pick out familiar words from the stories. Eventually they will be able to read some stories completely on their own. They should be encouraged to read to as many people as possible!!
