What is the best way to stop clothes moths?
This is a question that almost everyone asks, at the latest when your wardrobe is already infested by these tiresome insects. As well as chemical anti-moth agents there are also housewife’s remedies, for example sachets of lavender blossom or pieces of cedarwood placed between linen. In the labs tests were made to find how effective these popular remedies are in comparison to the synthetic agents in moth paper and moth bags. To measure the repellent effect the clothes moths were offered different chambers. One contained woollen material plus a repellent (e.g. lavender blossom), another only the wool. The tests proved that the moths were not kept away by the cedarwood. The smell of lavender was avoided by 45 per cent of the test insects, but 55 per cent were unconcerned and laid their eggs. Moth paper and moth bags containing a synthetic agent had the strongest repellent effect, and 68 per cent of the moths were kept away. On top of this the agents had a completely fatal effect, so that
