It really depends on what type of ebook and what genre.
If I were to sell and ebook, I would start by creating a free blog and sharing articles about things related to my ebook. I would set up a Paypal account where people could purchase my book and add that too my blog. Then I would start to share my blog with as many bookmarking sites as possible.
There is also a service called Lulu.com where you can self-publish.
