The product we like is called Parks Methylene Chloride Free No-Drip Strip. You paint it on, let it sit for 15-20 minutes, and then scrape it off with a putty Knife or scraper. Then you clean/scrub the wood with warm water and detergent. After you have applied it once, scraped it off, and scrubbed it, you can then just apply the stripper to the areas where you still see paint. If there are several layers of paint on it, you may have to reapply several times. When you use water on wood to scrub, you want to put it on just long enough to scrub the stripper off but not so much that you really soak the wood or leave any standing water on the chest. Wipe it dry afterwards and let it dry before you reapply the stripper. Too much water can damage the wood. If you can’t find this particular product, there are many on the market.
