Check out the TKTS booths, there are three of them around the city. In Times Square, South St. Seaport, and Downtown Brooklyn. All locations sell tickets at 50%, 40%, 30% and 20% off full-price (plus a $4.00 per ticket service charge, which helps support the Theatre Development Fund). Availability and ticket inventory change throughout the day and at the discretion of individual productions. Best bet is to get in line early in the morning for the best selection (booths open up at 10 am or 11 am on various days). You may not get to see the exact show you want, but you will definitely get a discount, you just have to be a little flexible about what you see, based on what shows are available on that particular day.
