What is the best way to learn how to invest in the stock market?
You could take a community college course or a local extension education service, but I think you can probably go a long way at your local library. Start with Investing for Dummies or one of those books. Very basic stuff. But go find Rule #1 by Phil Town. An excellent source of great fundamental investing strategy. However, you should be very careful in today’s market (May 2009). Both of these books are geared toward rising markets, and it looks like that’s what we’ve got today. But the fundamental economic health of the US is bleak, in my opinion, at least for the next 2-3 years. A lot of the boom of the last few years we funded by mortgage refinancing, and that has slowed dramatically. Consumer spending was also a big factor, and people are either saving more now, or they are unemployed. Globally, it’s not much better. So be careful out there.
