What is the best way to hang Christmas lights on the house?

For outdoor Christmas lights, the key to hanging is to always be safe. Outdoor Christmas light hanging should take approx 2 hours to complete for a job well done. I’ve outlined some simple instructions on how to make this task easy and stress-free:

1. Find the electrical receptacle for the lights: Run heavy-duty extension cords from here that are connected to the lights. Remember to use an automatic timer so lights will go on by themselves in the evening.
2. Measure lengths: Measure everything you plan to light! (Your house, bushes, trees) and measure the lengths of the strings to ensure that you have enough. How many feet of light strings are needed to light all your measurements?
3. Test those lights:Visually inspect all the bulbs and wires to make sure they’re not broken, missing or defective. Replace parts as needed. Then plug the light strings in to make sure all the bulbs light up.
4. Hang lights along eaves: Set up your ladder and get plastic clips made for attaching lights to the gutters or roof, and then go for it. Remember never to use staples or nails since they can pierce the wires and become a safety hazard.

Try Ace-Hardware for the clips – they are a little bit more but worth it because everyone else seems to be out. I must say, however, the best way I have found to hand Christmas Lights on the House is to hire a professional or a handyman. They have their own unique way of hanging the lights without nails or damage to you roof/gutters. They usually don’t charge alot and the way I look at it is this way: Paying some one 100 dollars plus a 20 dollar tip is worth its weight in gold compared to the neighborhood children listening to me swear like a sailor, recieve minor electrical burns, and detangle lights. It’s a small price to pay. Hope this Helps!
