What is the best way to germinate Foxtail Palm Seeds?
You can germinate Foxtail palms anytime that you are able to give them the constant minimum temperatures that they need to germinate. If the seeds are really fresh, I let them dry for a few days. Then I wash my seeds first, removing any plant debris from them, as there are often growth inhibitors around palm seeds, to prevent them growing too quickly. I soak them for about 1 to 2 days in warm water, at around room temperature, and change the water every few hours – I use filtered water for this. Soaking allows them to absorb the water that they need, in order to initiate germination. It can potentially help to use a very very mild bleach solution to rinse the seeds after their soaking, as this will kill any mold etc, that may be present around the seeds. Use something like a small sealable plastic container, with some vermiculite or perlite within them, and place these in your germination spot.
