What is the best way to fertilize a vegtable garden?
If you have a ready supply of compost, that’s all you need to feed the garden for the whole season. You can add a few inches over the entire garden before planting and mix it in with a spade or fork or you can just add a few handfuls around each plant. If you have no compost, I’ve found that vegetables taste better if organic fertilizer is used. Poultry manure, aged cow or horse manure or a product called ‘mushroom compost’ are available in bags or bulk at most garden centers.
