What is the best way to enhance language acquisition in bicultural environments?
Learning languages is a very interesting phenomenon. It can be incredibly difficult. I have a very hard time learning new languages. In a society like the United States, however, where two cultures (Latin American and American) are beginning to heavily mix, learning a new language can be incredibly important. There are a variety of ways to help both of these cultures learn English and Spanish. First of all, people need to accept their differences and move on. Secondly, we need to think of creative and fun ways to learn. Classrooms aren’t usually very fun. Language, from my experience, is best learned on a one on one basis. I think the best way is to allow English-speaking Americans to mentor (or be mentored by) a Spanish-speaking citizen. Just spending time with someone that speaks another language will help you not only get to know them, but get to know their language. We need to start more non-profits that focus on this idea of sharing cultures, languages, and information.
