What is the best way to clean my computer keyboard?

The best way to clean a computer keyboard is with air. Many people will try to wipe off their keyboard with a towel or something similar and do not realize that all they are doing is pushing the debris further underneath the keys. Eventually, this debris will cause problems with the performance of the keyboard since it tends to get in the way of the keys themselves.

Prepare to clean.

All you need to have to clean the keyboard is a can of air. You might be tempted to use a portable air compressor, but this would be a mistake. The pressure from an air compressor is too much for the keyboard to withstand. Simply purchase a can of air from the electronics department of any major store that sells computers or computer accessories.

Spray it Clean!

Shake the can well so that the pressure flows equally through it. Point the can away from an area that could be damaged. Test the pressure and the air by spraying the air can a couple of times. Do this until there is no liquid at all coming out of the can. You don’t want any type of liquid anywhere near the keyboard!

Use the straw attachment and spray the air between the keys. If possible, tile the keyboard so that when debris is pushed out of it as you clean the keyboard, it will fall to the ground. Spray the entire keyboard, working from top to bottom and left to right.

Using this method, you should be able to get your key board clean. If there is debris stuck to the keys or underneath the keys, remove the keys and wash them off. You can also do a thorough cleaning job with the air while the key is off.

The keys can be pried off with a plastic putty knife. Keys should easily pop off and on. Make sure to put the correct keys back in their spot when you are done cleaning theĀ  computer keyboard!

If it’s just dusty get a hand blow dryer and set it on high cool and blow away the dust.
