What is the best way of giving a cat a bath without it fighting you ?
Unless the cat is sedated, it will fight you. When kittens are bathed regularly from the time they’re little, when they grow up they will not go quite as crazy, but they still don’t like it. When I take my cat to a cat show, he needs to be bathed the night before. First step is to clip his claws (declawed cats are not allowed at CFA cat shows). Then comb him thoroughly. Use a shampoo formulated especially for cats and then dilute it by half with water so it rinses out more easily. I bathe my cats at the kitchen sink so I can use the sprayer. I’m very careful not to get any water in kitty’s eyes and then after the shampoo, when I think I have all the shampoo rinsed out, I rinse again. My cats only need a little toweling and then they can take it from there. Most of them would prefer to groom themselves anyway. Long-haired cats need help drying, so I use a quiet hair dryer.
