What is the best veterinary college?
The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine is regarded as the best veterinary college in the United States by the US News and World Report. The College offers courses for students interested in obtaining either a DVM (Degree of Vetrinary Medicine) or a graduate-level degree. (A PhD or MS) The DVM coursework starts with generaly topics in animal anatomy, ending in four years with progressively more time spent in clinical rotation for more hands-on practice. The advanced degree programs offer a more research-oriented curriculum, such as the Program in Infection and Pathobiology, a course of study that is taught by professors from both the College of Vetrinary Medicine and from numerous parts of Cornell’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. For prospective PhD students who do not wish to spend upwards to ten years in school, the College of Veterinary Medicine offers a DVM-PhD program, which allows one to potentially come out of the College with a PhD in seven years. This program in particular offers great financial incentives for students, as participants will be paid in the summer for laboratory rotations as well as getting a full tuition stipend during the PhD years.
Moreso than its academic programs, the Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine is best known for the highly-progressive reasearch it continually produces. The College has gained more than $30 million in grants for research already, more than half of that from Federal resources. The Food and Fiber Animal Research has published numerous studies for USDA, (United States Department of Agriculture) while the Basic Biomedical Research has been sponsored by the NIH, (National Institutes for Health) NSF, (National Science Foundation) and even the United States Department of Defense.
You could easily get 28 different answers from people who are loyal to their school. Your best chances of getting in will be if there is a vet school in your state. this is also the cheapest option for you. The website I’ve given lists all 28 US vet schools and their requirements. There aren’t a lot of scholarships out there for vet students, so concentrate on getting ones for undergraduate students. P.S. I agree with the first poster. Go K-State.
