You want a spray fixative. A brush on varnish will smudge the oil pastel. A high quality oil pastel fixative is available from Sennelier through, link below. If you’re looking for cheap, you can make do with Krylon Crystal Clear, or something similar. You can get Krylon spray products at most art supply stores. Online, try ASWExpress.com, link below.
