There isn’t one best treatment because it depends on the person and their migraine triggers and the severity of the migraine. Some people find that a cool, damp cloth, over the eyes and a lay down in a quiet and dark room works quite well. For others, that would have virtually no effect. For many, caffeine helps – but for some, it is actually a trigger. From my experience, a combination approach works best: Migraine should be treated before the headache sets in when you first notice the migraine “aura” (floaty head feeling, pressure at base of skull, tightness in neck, visual disturbance, flashing lights, blurred vision, vertigo etc. Not everyone experiences all of these symptoms, but most experience at least one. Take an over-the-counter drug like Excedrin Migraine with LOTS of water. Dehydration, even very mild dehydration, can trigger migraine and/or can aggrevate and already triggered migraine.
