What is the best time of year to plant tree in Michigan?

From NW Indiana – A tree does better in the ground than in a pot over winter so plant it now. Also a trees roots grow in winter and that provdes the growth for next spring – the spring growth in trees is the tree catching up with the roots. Thus the growing cycle for trees. Plant now, fertilize the roots and go to Lowes and get some root growth stimulator, mix with water and feed the tree until first frost. Always keep the tree watered till first frost too. Next year make sure the tree gets water and does not dry out and after the first year the tree should be fine. You can continue the fall fertilizer/root stimulator cycle though. That will give you a healthy tree. PS: If you plant in the spring the tree will go into a ‘shock’ period that will last a month or two Not to mention loosing the winter root growth so plant it now. As of last week I have already planted all my trees.
