What is the best thing to do to burn off excess fat, especially at the hips?
That’s a common question. The bad news is that if your hips are wide, part of that is a function of your bone structure: wider pelvis, wider hips. The good news is that if you fall into that category, you probably tend to be “pear”-shaped, as opposed to being “apple”-shaped. That means you store fat on your hips rather than around your waist. You will have lower risk for heart disease, although it is frustrating buying clothes. You can’t “spot”-reduce, so adopt a comprehensive exercise program to lower your overall body fat and increase the amount of lean muscle you carry on your frame. Work up to doing aerobic exercise three to five times a week for 30-45 minutes each time. You’ll burn more calories the longer you spend exercising, so walk, don’t run, to extend your exercise time. Cycling and in-line skating are other great ways to burn calories and have fun too.
You do not need any exercise machine to work off weight. Since you say you “are trying to get a 6 pack” I can safely assume you are already exercising and thus in reasonably good physical condition. So it is safe for you to try jogging or running. It requires no special equipment (except a good pair of shoes) It takes up no space in your home. The best thing is that it REALLY works. If that is not possible for you then the next best thing is a program (any program) that gets you up and moving so that you work up a real sweat. Although all those exercises they push at you in infomercials on TV are mostly to just make money for the advertiser, the one that will work is the PX 90 system. (there are several other similar systems) All it does is get you up and moving and exercising in a methodical manner and with consistency. Regular, consistent and sufficiently vigorous exercise in almost any form will burn off the fat. Exercise is only half of the equation. You have to watch what you eat
