It all boils down to how much your budget is that you are willing to spend. Vintage models can be pretty pricey especially those of a more luxurious brand like Porsche and Alfa Romeo. If it is for a starter car, I think a classic Mazda would be a good investment.

Although I like the Porsche better, the MG would be far more easier to find parts for in the salvage yards and online. Porsche can be costly. If you want something newer that would cost less than 10,000 with reliabilty, go with an older Mazda Miata. Then there is always the Old Classic Beetle Convertibles and Karmaan Ghia Convertibles by VW, but they will not perform like some of the others. Also, they can get expensive as well. There is also the Fiat 124 Spyder and the Alfa Romeo Spyder veloce. Anything Italian can get complicated and expensive. However, I think the styling is the best on Italian cars. They are not the most reliable at times. Look on eBay and Classic Auto Trader and that will give you an idea where the market is. Joining some forums, message boards and discussion groups can give you an idea of what people think of certain cars. Try Yahoo groups for cars. They have a wide variety of groups for different makes and models. Good luck!
