What is the best “Rock and Roll” movie you have ever watched?
The documentary film Woodstock is the best film I have seen about Rock & Roll. The film captured the event itself brilliantly; if you could not have been there, this was the next best thing. However, it captured more than the festival itself, it was also the definitive portrait of a unique generation – mine. If you have never seen this film, rent it or buy it. There have been many others that I can recommend. Olive Stone (a director who sometimes leaves me cold) produced an excellent film about The Doors, which featured a riveting performance by Val Kilmer as the charismatic, troubled Jim Morrison. Despite the film’s title, it’s really a biography of Morrison, focusing on his career, his excesses, and his bent for self-destruction. For lighter fare, the Beatles’ films A Hard Day’s Night, Help, and Yellow Submarine remain favorites as well.
