Most rat and mouse poisons work that way now. The active ingredient in many of them is actually warfarin, which is prescribed to millions of people as a blood thinner. The vermin eat the poisoned bait, and they leave the house, and they bleed to death internally later on. That’s what’s in D-Con, and there’s another one called Rodex, I believe. You put the stuff out regularly, and it can take a couple of weeks before you notice that your problem is going away, but it does work. Be careful though, because some rodents will feel ill and if they have nests built in your house, like behind the wallboard, they will simply bed down there, and die, which leaves you with the smell of a decomposing little body in your house, which is very unpleasant.
