What is the best product for unblocking bath drain?
I own a plumbing company. You can get a cable in the can from kmart or walmart or a hardware store. You need two people. One person rotating the can while the other feeds the cable into the tub drain. You remove the face plate where the water overflow is. That is where you feed the cable. Other less expensive alternatives include boiling large pots of water and pouring them into the drain over and over. Never put draino or baking soda or anything else in your drain. All gimmicks and people do not know they harden in your pipes further down resulting in replacement of the pipes soon. really expensive!!!!!!!
if you havent already done this-before you use comercial product, remove the tub drain plug- it should have a screw on the side to remove the part of the plug that moves up/down- once removed you can get a better look at the drain. it probably will have a large amount of hair in the drain, use needlenose pliers and remove the blockage- run water while you do this it will make the removal easier. if you have a small drain snake, you can use this rather than pliers-run about 6 inches of the drain snake out and then lock it- run the snake and it will remove the blockage, if it is hair-take the tangle to the toilet and remove with pliers and flush the mess down the drain.
Our shower drain was REALLY slow because of soap buildup in the drain, and I tried several methods (Vinegar & Baking Soda, Liquid Plumber, etc..) The best thing I’ve found was Foaming Pipe Snake (I think it’s by liquid plumber) It’s 2 different chemicals in the bottle that combine when your pour it. It says to pour both at the same time, but I got the best results by pouring the thin stuff in the drain, waiting a minute, then pouring the thick stuff down. I let it sit for 10 mins, then poured boiling water in the drain. Cleared it right up! If you have a septic system, I recommend using a treatment like Rid-X after using any harsh drain chemicals.
