What is the best procedure for treating women with chlamydia and have or want an IUD?
I attended the Contraceptive Technology Conference this month in Atlanta. I was a little confused about the contraindication of IUD insertion with STI. Is it a pelvic inflammatory disease within 6 months or just a positive CT or GC DNA test? Since many chlamydia infections are asymptomatic if a woman has a positive culture, should we treat and wait 6 months to do the placement of the IUD? We do urine CT/GC test with all IUD insertions. Is this the best way to handle positive CT/GC within 6 months or requested IUD replacement? Thank you!
