What is the best pathway for ESL students who, for whatever reason, have large gaps in their studies, especially in the math area?
According to the ESL/ELD DWC, if a student cannot earn 50% in an Essential math program and s/he has problems in English literacy as well as gaps in first language literacy, s/he is a good candidate for one of the secondary LEAP programs located in 14 schools across the city. Students must be 16 years and younger for these full-day programs; enrolment is capped at 12 students and offer a mix of credit and non-credit courses in English, Math and Social Studies. Applications for the program are available from the ESL/ELD Instructional Leaders in each of the four EOs.
