I have to recommend Medicine Bow Peak in southeastern Wyoming. The trail is a relatively short two miles from the Lewis Lake trailhead — you can bag the peak in a morning. Or you can do a longer loop hike from Lake Marie. Views are incredible (Medicine Bow is the peak on the right): http://www.flickr.com/photos/23227124@N0… The only problem would be your plan to climb in the spring. Most of the Rockies will still be under snow until sometime in June, so if you can’t make it a summer trip, it won’t work for you. I was there in July, and because Wyoming had an above-average snow year, the trails to the top were still under snow. However, I’d already hiked up it in previous years, so it wasn’t a huge disappointment.
