What is the best media for preserving stock cultures of anaerobes?
A. Our Cooked Meat Medium (Cat. no. K19) contains chopped meat, hemin, vitamin K, iron filings, and yeast extract. It has been shown to be a good medium for long-term storage of anaerobic bacteria, when freezing is not convenient. If freezing of the cultures is desired, use our CryoSaverâ„¢ Skim Milk (Cat. no. CSM100). Each vial is pre-measured with skim milk, which is an excellent cryopreservative (ref: Summanen, P. et al. 1993. Wadsworth Anaerobic Bacteriology Manual, 5th ed.
