What is the best image size for fast loading JPEGs?
If you don’t plan on zooming in to see details of an image, you might want to edit them down to match the screen resolution of your handheld. For older handhelds, 160×160 pixels is enough to fill the screen. For new handhelds with high resolution screens, you’ll want 320×320 or 320×480 pixels. Some JPEG editing software allows you to select a “quality” setting for saved JPEGs. You can save JPEGs with a very low quality setting and still get very good results on your handheld screen. Usually, the lower the quality setting, the faster the JPEG will load. And finally, progressive JPEGs take more memory and time to open than normal JPEGs, so if you have the option, don’t save JPEGs in Progressive mode.
