What is the best house wrap or exteria insulation?
Housewrap has no insulating value. It’s purpose is to prevent moisture from entering the home’s “envelope” (but still “breathe” to prevent moisture from building up behind it)and to some degree prohibiting outside air from entering. EVERY seam and tear must be taped properly though to permit the wrap to function. I’m starting to see some builders go back to felt paper though. If it’s insulation you want, use foam, 2 X 6’s on 24″ centers, the “new” vinyl siding with insulation formed in place, “smart” (2 stud) framing corners etc. Remember, wood is a poor insulator and plug ANY penetrations to the exterior (sole/top plates drilled for elec. cables, TV cables, etc, around windows/ doors. Basically, before the drywall goes up, insulate any areas where cold air is entering and you’ll have a home tighter than 90% of those out there. I heat 5200 sq. ft. and have had only two bills over $100.oo even during the coldest months. I don’t mean this like I’m bragging, my point is, just by being car
