What is the best horse feed i should feed my horse to gain weight?
We have a 27-year-old Swedish Warmblood mare who was 300lbs. underweight when we got her. This is how we got her to gain back that weight in a couple of months. Now she is healthy, shiny, and energetic- you would never know she is close to 30 years old. Start off by making sure your horse has been wormed. Have a weight tape so you can monitor what is really going on. 1) First, start him/her off on a regular feed schedule with a senior feed (we use Nutrena Senior). You may find that she is merely underweight because she wasn’t being fed enough at their previous home (as was the case with our mare), or that she benefits from the senior feed. 2) Allow her to be on pasture 24/7 (or as much as possible) so she can eat grass. Having room to move about will also prevent her fro being stiff and arthritic.
