What is the best-flavored canned ham?
I don’t know how widely they’re available (I’m in Lancaster Couonty PA and they’re a local product here), but Weaver Hams are absolutely the best I’ve ever had. They aren’t so salty you feel like drinking a gallon of water, later, and they have, at least for me, just exactly the intense, complex flavor you talk about. Here’s their website… www.sclydeweaver.com I know what you mean–I avoid ham and other fatty foods, but reading your description, I could feel the juices starting to flow. I’m remembering how good those hams are, and thinking about the pot of split pea soup I’d make later, with the bone and scraps. And I haven’t had red-eye gravy, as my mom called it, for roughly a million years.
