Smooth and slick, and impermeable–like leather, or Totally removeable and washable. Personally, I’d love nice sturdy leather upholstery…until we brought home another puppy, and said puppy did the number on the leather cushions that the last one did on the cloth cushions! Vinyl would serve some of the same purposes, but I personally don’t care for it. So, what we have is washable. It saves a whole lot of hassle to just be able to unzip the covers and toss them in the washer. We have English setters and they drool. I actually have at least two covers for each pillow, so that I can have one in the wash and one on the couch. I also like stuff with some body for this–and what I found was actually fabric meant to be used for heavy-duty rental linens. It’s stout, stain resistant, and attractive, totally washable, and it doesn’t wrinkle in the wash, so it’s easy care.
