What is the best distance for viewing 3D content with CubicVue?
We currently have designed our CubicVue portable media player attachments to work best at a distance of about 12 inches, or 30cm. We usually determine the most common viewing distance for a particular device and then design our CubicVue product to function most effectively at that range. So for larger displays, we would set a larger optimal viewing. The viewing distance is actually a range and not a constant. As you move outside the optimal viewing distance, your 3D perception will slowly begin to deteriorate, and as you move back in you will increasingly experience better depth perception again. We have performed extensive testing of CubicVue attachments on a variety of devices and it seems that most people find their best spot after about 20 seconds. From then on they intuitively go back to that particular distance without even thinking about it — it’s kind of like riding a bike.
