What is the best desgin for dog agility weave poles?
Okay, here’s the challenge: –PVC weave poles aren’t real sturdy (especially if you have anything bigger than a Sheltie or terrier). –But PVC weave poles are ideal because you can use them indoors or outside and you can tilt them to create channels. I’m assuming you’re just getting started on agility (if not, my apologies for the basic description). You do want your dog to go fast. And other than the very basic intro, you want to teach speed as soon as possible on the weaves (it’s a lot harder to teach a dog to do the weaves right and THEN add speed–better to do them both from the git-go). There are lots of methods for teaching the weaves. Susan Garrett’s 2v2 is a great way. But my point about speed is this–if you use a “T” intersection, you can tilt the weave poles so they’re not straight. This provides a channel that your dog naturally weaves around. Which means he learns speed quickly. You can also do this with stick in the ground poles but those only work outside and not on conc
