What is the best cleaning and sealing product for slate floors?
Slate is a natural stone that is quarried all over the world. It can be composed of many different elements, creating a variety of looks. Due to its porous nature, all slate needs to be sealed. Sealers protect the stone while maintaining or enhancing its original look. Natural stone sealers create an invisible barrier that is resistant to moisture and stains. Tile showrooms offer several sealing options. We suggest Mira Matte for color enhancement and 511 Impregnator for a natural appearance. Both products are made by Miracle Sealants. Slate will be easier to maintain once it has been sealed. Soap and water, a mild detergent or a professional soap specifically for slate floors is suggested for routine maintenance. While slate will not be damaged by alkali cleaners, acidic cleansers can break down its surface, requiring repair or replacement of individual tiles or even the entire floor.
