What is the best approach to control fluid loss after a frac-pack or a gravel pack?
After the gravel pack screens are in place excessive fluid loss may be controlled one of several ways. The preferred method is to use mechanical isolation devices to prevent completion fluid loss to the formation. Mechanical devices are either run in the gravel pack liner assembly above the top of the screen, Fluid Loss Control Valves or screen assemblies that are concentric tubes that straddle the ID of the gravel pack screens equipped with selective sliding sleeves. In applications where mechanical isolation devices can not be run, then fluid loss pills are required after the frac or gravel pack operation. In this application the preferred fluid loss pill is PerfFLOW. Fluid loss pills run after the frac or gravel pack operation must be a solids type that will bridge on the ID of the gravel pack screen. HEC and crosslinked gel pills will leak off into the high permeability gravel or proppant and damage the flow capacity of the pack. Solids’ type fluid loss pills bridge on the face of
