If you basement is constantly changing temperatures, i wouldn’t recommend storing you wine there as you want to keep the temperature as consistent as possible. It should fluctuate more than 3 degree F per day or 5 degrees F per year. Red wines are more sensitive to this than white wines. If you don’t have a wine cooler or wine cellar, you can create a makeshift wine cellar with a closet. Use a closet on the ground floor, put foam board on the walls as insulation, replace the wood closet door with an insulated steel door, glue foam around the new door as well, and add weather stripping to the edges of the door so no air or heat can get in.
