What is the best age to vaccinate?
Calves of three to nine months of age. Calves under three months of age can also be vaccinated, but they should be monitored as per adult animals. Cattle older than nine months can also be vaccinated, but the risk of reactions increases with age. There are a few things to keep in mind when vaccinating older cattle. For bulls and pregnant cows in particular, it is important to: • follow vaccination instructions • keep the animals under observation • check temperatures, if possible. If reacting animals are treated as soon as symptoms of tick fever are seen, there are usually no ill-effects. Treatment of vaccinated animals may interfere with development of long-term immunity and revaccination is recommended.
